Criminal Advocacy
Looking Beyond the Charge and Understanding the Full Story
A criminal charge can affect far more than the court case itself. It can impact your job, your family, your housing, your driving privileges, and your future. It can also be difficult to know what matters, what does not, and what you should be doing next.
At Veronica Lockett Law, PLLC, the first step is understanding the case as it actually exists. That means reviewing the allegations, the available evidence, the procedural history, and the circumstances surrounding what happened.
I also believe the person matters.
A criminal case is not always fully understood by looking at the charge alone. Mental health, substance use, trauma, treatment history, family responsibilities, employment, military service, and other life circumstances may be relevant to how the case should be evaluated and presented.
Depending on the matter, representation may involve reviewing discovery, identifying legal or factual issues, communicating with the prosecutor, presenting mitigation, discussing treatment or other alternatives when appropriate, and helping you understand the risks and choices available at each stage.
My approach is practical and individualized. I do not assume every case should be handled the same way. Some matters may be resolved through negotiation. Others may require a stronger challenge to the State's evidence or position. The goal is to understand the case, protect your rights, and make decisions based on the facts rather than fear.
Criminal matters may include:
Misdemeanor criminal cases
Select felony matters
Assault and family violence cases
DWI and related driving offenses
Cases involving mental health, treatment, or mitigation concerns
Traffic tickets and municipal court matters
Every case is different. I focus on making sure you understand what you are facing, what options are available, and what each decision may mean for you moving forward.
